Santa Monica opened an own Bitcoin office to increase awareness and integration of Bitcoin among its citizens and the visitors, tourists.

Santa Monica loves Bitcoin

The main goal of Santa Monica’s Bitcoin Office is to educate residents about Bitcoin and explain, show the benefits of using it.

Vice Mayor Lana Negrete, a strong supporter of the project expressed her happiness about the office’s opening, repeated that Bitcoin is indeed for everyone.

„As we start to learn about Bitcoin in Santa Monica, I’m eager to see how these ideas will grow. Bitcoin is for everyone.”

The office wants to form partnerships that can support local tourism and create new job opportunities within the expanding, growing Bitcoin sector.

City officials are also mindful of the higher energy demands of the industry and plan to promote Bitcoin mining powered by sustainable energy sources.

El Salvador leads the pack

They shared that the idea for Santa Monica’s Bitcoin Office was inspired by El Salvador, which made Bitcoin legal tender back in 2021.

El Salvador successfully attracted investment and increased tourism since adopting Bitcoin, and Santa Monica officials visited El Salvador to learn directly from their experience.

The participants told they hope to achieve similar success in the city. The Bitcoin office will provide education to residents, tourists, and businesses, supporting the city’s economic goals and vision of benefiting from new financial technologies.

More!

Santa Monica has an annual budget of $700 million and attracts about 4.5 million visitors each year, who spent approximately $1 billion in 2023.

The Bitcoin office is expected to boost the economy more, by drawing more businesses and tourists.

Santa Monica firefighters also made headlines after they shared the department began self-custody of Bitcoin, signaling the city’s growing interest in cryptocurrency.

Cheering the launch, Proof of Workforce founder Dom Bei plans to display Bitcoin visuals on the Santa Monica Pier.

This will raise awareness about the new Bitcoin office and its goals, in a really trendy and memorable way. Probably the pier-to-pier way.
