Justin Sun and the CZ rumor mill is the newest crypto drama

-

Alright, guys, pull up a chair. Let’s talk about Justin Sun, the man behind Tron, and the swirling rumors about his supposed involvement in Changpeng CZ Zhao’s plea deal with the U.S. Department of Justice.

The rumors that won’t quit

Reports are flying around that CZ, the former Binance CEO, allegedly handed over evidence against Sun as part of his plea deal with the DoJ. This comes after CZ served four months in prison last year for AML violations.

The Wall Street Journal dropped this bombshell on April 11, claiming that this arrangement hadn’t been publicly disclosed before.

Naturally, Sun wasn’t thrilled when the rumor mill started churning. He took to X to say he’s not aware of these claims.

CZ is my mentor and a close friend, Sun wrote, brushing off the allegations with all the finesse of someone dodging a bad debt collector.

He even went on to praise CZ for being a guiding light in his entrepreneurial journey, because nothing says “I trust you” like a public declaration amid scandal.

CZ’s silence speaks volumes?

What about CZ? Well, he hasn’t directly addressed these reports yet. But just before the story broke, he warned his 10 million followers on X about an upcoming baseless hit piece. Coincidence? Maybe. Or maybe not.

Sun doubled down on his loyalty to both CZ and the DoJ, calling them trusted partners. He even claimed that open communication is key to their relationship, because apparently, nothing screams transparency like being accused of backroom deals.

Fame

Let’s not forget, Sun isn’t exactly new to controversy. The SEC has been breathing down his neck since March 2023, accusing him and his companies, Tron Foundation, BitTorrent Foundation, and Rainberry of securities violations.

Earlier this year, Sun and the SEC asked for a pause in their legal battle to explore settlement talks. So yeah, Sun’s plate is already pretty full without these new rumors.

And let’s not overlook CZ’s unique claim to fame, walking out of prison as the richest person ever to serve time in the U.S., with a reported net worth of $60 billion at the time.

If this were a movie, CZ would be the guy who gets out of jail and buys an island.

So what do we make of all this? Is Sun really caught up in CZ’s plea deal drama? Or is this just another chapter in crypto’s never-ending soap opera?

Either way, it’s clear that trust and transparency are in short supply in this world, and that’s putting it mildly.
