Pump.fun suspended livestream

-

The Solana-based memecoin generator has hit the brakes on its livestream feature due to a wave of inappropriate content that has caused quite the uproar.

The platform announced it would pause livestreaming until the moderation infrastructure is ready to handle the increased activity.

What’s the problem with the livestream?

This decision comes after Pump.fun faced backlash for its controversial livestream feature, which has unfortunately been misused for some pretty disturbing acts.

The team at Pump.fun is taking user safety seriously and has committed to improving moderation efforts, so they’ve been busy removing inappropriate images, comments, and videos that have popped up during these livestreams. But it wasn’t enough.

The platform saw its livestream activity skyrocket, over 100 times in just a week, which put a serious strain on their moderation systems.

To tackle this issue, they’ve expanded their moderation team and upgraded both human oversight and automated content control systems, but despite these efforts, they decided that suspending the livestream feature was necessary until they can catch up with all the chaos.

Transparency

In their announcement, Pump.fun promised to be more transparent about the rules and regulations for using the site, and they plan to publish clear guidelines and give creators and users better insight into individual moderation decisions.

“We’re here to grow alongside our community and ensure that this platform becomes stronger and better through every challenge we face.”

Unfortunately, the livestream feature became a stage for some extreme behavior. There have been reports of users making threats of self-harm and violence tied to the financial success of their tokens. In one case, a user threatened to take their life if their token didn’t hit a $25 million market cap. WTF.

Dangerous idiots on the internet

Other incidents included individuals depicting violent actions towards family members in desperate attempts to push their projects forward. Some even resorted to firing a gun to celebrate when their coin’s value increased.

These shocking behaviors have understandably sparked real outrage across social media platforms.

As Pump.fun works on boosting its moderation capabilities, it’s clear that they’re facing a hard challenge in balancing growth with user safety.

While the decision to pause livestreams may be disappointing for some, it looks like a necessary step towards creating a safer environment for all users.
