Solana introduces Seeker, the new web3 phone

-

Solana unveiled its latest smartphone, the Seeker, which is designed to be a „rewards magnet” similar to its predecessor, the Saga.

Emmett Hollyer from Solana Labs shared that this new device wants to offer much more than just a platform for memecoins.

Seeker phone features

Speaking at Token2049 in Singapore, Hollyer explained that while the Seeker will attract users with rewards, it isn’t merely a memecoin phone, but the device is an opportunity for developers to create entirely new experiences.

The Seeker will come with an upgraded DApp store and improved hardware. Hollyer also revealed that the phone will support various applications on the Solana network, including DeFi, payments, and gaming too.

He mentioned that the Seeker will feature a better screen, improved cameras, and a longer-lasting battery, making it lighter, brighter, and better than the Saga.

Solana isn’t trying to compete directly with major mobile brands like Apple and Samsung. Instead, their focus is on providing as much cryptocurrency utility as possible in a handheld device.

They have different goals and target audiences, advancements in high-end phone technology have made it easier for them to create a competitive product.

Seeker airdrop, not so impressive so far

While there are high hopes for potential rewards from using the Seeker device, data from Solana’s mobile airdrop checker, TwoLoot, shows that users have received tokens worth just over $265 so far.

This amount is way lower than the $1,350 in airdrops associated with the Saga.

Hollyer believes that rewards are just one aspect of what the Seeker offers, and he told that users will enjoy a wide range of crypto-integrated experiences.

Riding the waves

Hollyer stated that the goal is for everything happening on the Solana network to also be available on the Seeker, and their intention is to maintain an open app store to facilitate quick access to various applications.

In this way developers could quickly introduce multiple apps offering similar functionalities.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for whatever the next narrative is.”

If Solana successfully markets the Seeker as more than just a memecoin device and making it popular with its broader applications in cryptocurrency, it could attract a wider audience and boost user engagement within the Solana ecosystem and community.
