Eve Frontier’s game economy will let you create new cryptocurrencies

-

CCP Games, the creator of Eve Online just revealed a new online survival game, Eve Frontier, which includes a promising feature: players will be able to build their own in-game economies with a connection to real-world currencies.

Game economy utilitizes blockchain

On September 12, CCP Games announced Eve Frontier, a new survival MMO that promises a distinctive player-driven economic system.

This new feature lets users create in-game cryptocurrencies and exchange digital items for actual goods and currencies.

Players will have the ability to establish their own in-game marketplaces, determining how they trade assets and even real-world commodities.

This mix of game and real economy adds a level of player agency not previously seen in other games.

A community-driven in-game ecosystem

In a blog post, CCP Games highlighted that Eve Frontier will revolve around a community-driven and dynamic economy, where players are granted the freedom to invent their own currencies, set up markets, and trade both tangible and intangible goods, all in an open and evolving environment.

CEO Hilmar Pétursson mentioned how this unique economic system will let users mold the game’s vast universe, as the game’s players will be able to set the rules for their individual game zones, deciding which currencies and services they will allow.

“Players can exploit space to create entire economies, with every action affecting the vast expanse of Eve Frontier.”

While the gameplay in Eve Frontier will mainly focus on resource gathering and empire-building, its economic system could very well become its standout feature.

Players’ choices will influence not only their personal success but the in-game and possibly even real-world economy.

Blockchain-powered, player-controlled economies

CCP Games has long been secretive about the blockchain tech involved, but they have started to clarify what this means for Eve Frontier.

The blockchain system allows for complex modifications that players can make to the game’s environment, including how in-game currencies are generated, valued, and exchanged.

This opens the door to new economic experiments that might blur the line between in-game currency and actual financial value.

Given the massive scale of battles and economy-altering events in Eve Online, in the the game Eve Frontier builds upon, there’s potential for even more complex economic scenarios in Eve Frontier, where in-game currency could develop real-world value.
