The Dogecoin Foundation just announced a huge update to its development ’trailmap’, the Project Sakura.
Increased block speed and bigger block size, here we come! Not surprisingly, the news generated lot of buzz within the Dogecoin community.
Three-step strategy for Dogecoin’s growth
The Dogecoin Foundation’s trailmap outlines a three-step strategy to expand the usability of DOGE.
The first step, which has been fully completed already, focused on making development more accessible and growing the developer ecosystem through tools like libdogecoin and multi-language bindings.
This is at 100%. The second step, now at 90% completion, wants to lower the barrier for Dogecoin adoption in business and for the 1.7 billion unbanked people worldwide.
This phase includes the deployment of the GigaWallet Payment Gateway and Ecommerce plugins to streamline the use of DOGE in commercial transactions in the easiest way.
Project Sakura: scaling Dogecoin for global currency status
The third step, currently at 10% completion, is where the true excitement lies. Project Sakura seeks to dramatically pump up Dogecoin’s transaction throughput to meet global currency scalability norms.
This includes a tenfold increase in both block speed and size, along with a “‘Proof of Doge’ Protocol Upgrade prototype.”
This plan, especially the third step curbed up the interest of the Dogecoin community big time, with loud voices requesting more details on the implications of Project Sakura.
The role of Dogecoin community in the future of the development
The Dogecoin Foundation shared that their trailmap is more than just a simple roadmap, it is also a community-driven, consensus-based exploration into the future of DOGE.
The foundation asserts that this project reflects the decentralized ethos of DOGE itself.
With initiatives like libdogecoin and the GigaWallet, the foundation wants to simplify the process of adopting DOGE technologies while ensuring that future implementations remain true to the original protocol as documented in the Dogecoin Standard.
The GigaWallet, in particular, is designed to be an enterprise-ready DOGE service that can be set up quickly and allow developers to add Dogecoin transactions to their platforms as easily as with any polished payment provider.
In the Dogecoin community, and in the crypto industry many thinks if Project Sakura is successfully implemented, it could boost Dogecoin’s scalability and finally position it as a viable global currency.
Also, the community emphasized the need for bigger transparency and more detailed information on the specifics of this plan.
